Undo, Draft Edits and Dirty State
How undo works, what the dirty indicator means, and how draft edits are protected.
CueForge protects your work at three levels: undo history for mistakes, a dirty-state indicator for unsaved changes, and draft handling for the Audio Deep Editor. This page explains all three.
Undo and redo
Cmd+Z(WindowsCtrl+Z) undoes the last action;Cmd+Shift+Z(WindowsCtrl+Shift+ZorCtrl+Y) redoes it. On macOS,Cmd+Yalso redoes.- One operator action equals one undo step. If you paste ten cues, one
Cmd+Zremoves all ten — undo matches what you intended, not the internal steps it took.
While Show Lock is engaged (or you are in Show Mode), undo and redo are blocked, along with all other editing. Save remains allowed. See Show Mode.
Dirty state
The document tracks whether it differs from the last saved project file. When it does, the dirty indicator shows unsaved changes; after Cmd+S it clears. Dirty state is derived from the project’s internal change journal, so it is accurate even after undo and redo.
Unsaved-changes guard dialogs
Any action that would lose unsaved work opens a guard dialog instead:
- “Unsaved Changes” — appears when closing a window or leaving work behind.
- “Quit CueForge?” — appears when quitting with a dirty project.
Both offer Cancel (stay and keep working), Discard Changes (abandon the unsaved edits), and Save and Quit / save options. If the save itself fails, CueForge shows the failure and aborts the quit cleanly — it never discards work silently.
Draft edits in the Audio Deep Editor
The Audio Deep Editor (embedded or detached) has its own draft layer:
- While you edit audio detail — markers, phrases, actor tracks, grid — a Draft badge shows that the cue’s audio detail has unsaved changes.
- Switching to a different cue with unsaved audio changes opens the “Unsaved Audio Changes” dialog: Save and Switch keeps the draft, Discard Changes abandons it, or Cancel stays on the current cue. (When the draft is dropped because the cue itself is being deleted, the destructive variant offers Delete Without Saving instead of Discard Changes.)
See The Audio Deep Editor for the full editor chapter.
